The Hotel Group
Zilwa Attitude is part of the Attitude Hotels group, which owns nine hotels and is soon expanding with a new property in Zanzibar.
“Zilwa” means “islander” in Creole, and this 4-star hotel is well-known for its family-friendly atmosphere and eco-conscious philosophy—two key reasons why I wanted to experience it firsthand.
I stayed at the hotel in February, which is the high season in Mauritius. With an occupancy rate of 90% across its 214 rooms, about 75% of guests opted for the all-inclusive package.
Upon arrival, I was immediately struck by the breathtaking view of Coin de Mire, framed by an infinity pool (the only adults-only pool at the resort).
Despite the high occupancy, the hotel never felt overcrowded. The four restaurants and multiple pools help distribute guests evenly across the resort, creating a relaxing atmosphere.
Note that there are a few stairs in this hotel, but there is still disabled person access (ramp). But not only that, there are also disabled person access rooms. We checked out late on the last day and a disabled person access room was made available to us.

Our Stay at Zilwa Attitude
📍 Location: Calodyne, Northern Mauritius
📅 Dates: February 14–17, 2025 (4 days, 3 nights)
We booked two connecting rooms (1614 and 1615) on the first floor, which was ideal for a family stay. The rooms are connected via a small hallway with a wooden bench, perfect for storing bags and other items.
Room Features
🛏️ Spacious and well-equipped: large bed, wardrobe, safe, and a big flat-screen TV
🚿 Large bathroom: walk-in shower, eco-friendly toiletries
🌊 Private balcony with a stunning lagoon view
👕 Discreet but practical drying rack for swimwear
🥤 Mini fridge, two bottles of water, kettle, and a French press coffee maker
🔌 UK and French electrical sockets available
For the tea and coffee, you will have to collect them at the boutique near the Karay restaurants.
The hotel, built just 11 years ago, has quickly become a benchmark in the Mauritian hospitality industry.
Dining Options at Zilwa Attitude
The hotel offers several dining options, starting with the main buffet restaurant:
🍽️ Karay (Buffet Restaurant)
📍 Serves breakfast and dinner
🍽️ Buffet-style dining with a rotating weekly theme
🏝️ Scenic setting with terraces overlooking the resort
A personal favorite—I loved the restaurant’s charm and ambiance. It’s conveniently located near the souvenir boutiqueand the grab-and-go station for tea, coffee, and drinks.
🥗 Lunch Options
Three locations are available for lunch:
1️⃣ Taba-J: A street food-inspired snack bar by the beach (open 12:30 PM – 3:00 PM)
2️⃣ Lor Disab: A beachfront restaurant (open 12:00 PM – 3:00 PM). Very convenient as we were at the swimming pool next to this restaurant. No need to go back to the main building for the lunch. The buffet was also great with many dishes and a refreshing salad bar.
3️⃣ Grand Zil: The hotel’s private island experience 🌴
The Grand Zil experience is a must-do! A short boat ride (under 10 minutes) takes you to a secluded beach with sun loungers, hammocks, and a buffet of local seafood specialties. We loved it.
Note that experience is not included in the half board and full board, only for all inclusive. You will have to pay a supplement.

🍛 Dinner Options
Aside from Karay, you can choose from:
- Manao: Authentic Thai cuisine 🇹🇭
- Tadka: A North Indian restaurant 🇮🇳
- Kot Nou: A traditional Mauritian restaurant 🇲🇺
Guests staying three nights or more can enjoy the Dine Around experience, allowing them to try different restaurants each night (reservation required).
Welcome Cocktail for Residents
On Saturday evening (7:00 PM – 7:45 PM), we were invited to the Resident Welcome Cocktail, hosted by the hotel manager.
This exclusive event is available only to Mauritian residents, offering an opportunity to interact with the staff and other local guests. The evening included sparkling wine and delicious Mauritian appetizers (gadjaks).
We really appreciated this moment to discuss with the staff about the hotel, the eco-friendly initiatives and the approach to attract tourists but also residents.
Eco-Friendly Values at Zilwa Attitude
🌱 Sustainability is a core value of the Attitude Hotels group:
✅ No plastic water bottles – replaced with glass bottles
✅ No plastic waste bags – replaced with fabric waste bins
✅ Tea and coffee in glass jars, refillable at Karay’s grab-and-go boutique
✅ Water fountains available at the main hotel to fill bottles and water bottles.
Carrying glass bottles around the resort was slightly inconvenient, but it’s a small price to pay for sustainability! ♻️
Activities at Zilwa Attitude
🏄♂️ Free water activities:
- Glass-bottom boat rides
- Windsurfing
- Kayaking
- Pedal boats
- Stand-up paddleboarding
- Beach hut for collecting towels and borrowing books and beach games (balls, rackets), very convenient
🧒 Kids’ Club (for children aged 3 and above, must be potty trained). You can also borrow beach toys for the kids.
Unfortunately, my youngest was unable to go to the kids club (without a parent present) because he was under 3, even though he was already potty-trained.
The Beach at Zilwa Attitude
🌅 Postcard-perfect scenery, featuring:
✅ Coin de Mire and Île Ronde in the distance
✅ Grand Zil on the right
However, the beach has a muddy seabed, which may feel uncomfortable underfoot. The water is not crystal-clear due to the sandy bottom.

Pricing at Zilwa Attitude 🏷️
Here is an indicative table of rates for a superior room (2 adults + 1 child aged 4), depending on the season and resident/non-resident status:
Season | Mauritian residency | Non-Résident |
---|---|---|
High Season (Dec-Mar) | MUR 12,430 / night | From MUR 18,000 / night |
Low Season (May-Sep) | MUR 9,500 / night | From MUR 14,000 / night |
📌 Prices may vary depending on the season and meal options.

What Could Be Improved?
❌ No child-friendly buffet section
🍦 Only two ice cream flavors (vanilla & chocolate) – more sorbets would be great!
💧 Murky water near the shore
☕️ When you arrive, there’s no tea or coffee in the room, you have to go to the store to get some.
🍴Gran Zil restaurant not included in full-board package (all inclusive only)
👶🏻 Accept children under the age of 3 at the kids club as long as they are potty-trained (which was the case with my youngest). I had to stay with him for the activities.
My final opinion ⭐⭐⭐⭐
The Zilwa Attitude is a 4-star hotel perfect for families and ecotourism enthusiasts. Its warm atmosphere, varied restaurants and free activities make it a sure bet in Mauritius.
Loved the little gifts for my parents-in-law who celebrated their wedding anniversary (some tea and a tote bag).
🏝️ An unforgettable stay, despite a few small details to be improved.
We recommend it!
