Come with me as I take you on a tour of the House of Digital Art in Port Louis. This new immersive cultural space is a whole new genre in Mauritius.
We’re currently in the 2nd season of exhibitions since it opened.
Useful information
1. The place
Located in the Edith space, House of digital is housed in an 18th-century building in a historic Port Louis neighborhood.
Edith, 6 Edith Cavell Street
11324 Port-Louis
Mauritius, Indian Ocean
This is a square with restaurants and stores. You can have lunch in the vicinity:
- Panarottis pizza,
- Artisan Coffee,
- Indian restaurant Sagam Taj,
- kebab sandwich at Barrack snack
- or a salad at Café de la Presse
- Or the Caudan, a food court overlooking the port.
How to get there
You can choose to park in Port Louis, but it’s a bit sporty and I wouldn’t recommend it given the traffic.
Alternatively, you can park at the Caudan Waterfront parking lot:
Uncovered parking: The first 4 hours are RS 50 then beyond that, the additional hour will be RS 50.
Free parking:
Weekdays: from 4pm
Saturday: from 12:30 pm
Sundays and public vacations
Covered parking lot (Dias Pier or Caudan Arts Centre): The first 4 hours are at RS 80, then beyond that, the additional hour will be at RS 80.
Then cross the Caudan, take the underground tunnel and it’s further on the right.
3. Fees
- Adults – residents (18-60 years, ID required): Rs 250.00
- Children – residents (4-12 years): Rs 150.00
- Free admission for children under 4.
- Adults – travelers (18-60 years): Rs 600.00
- Travelling children (4-17 years): Rs 300.00
- Students and seniors (full-time students aged 13+, including international students. ID required): Rs 200.00
- Disabled visitors: Free admission for a carer accompanying an otherwise able-bodied visitor: Rs 200.00
4. Duration
It’s worth noting that the place is quite small, so the visit is still quite short. I’d say about 1 hour.
This is a good time to do other things in Port Louis, such as the bazaar, the Odysseo oceanarium, or a shopping session at Caudan.
5. Children
Free for children under 4
I wouldn’t necessarily recommend this place for toddlers, as they won’t be allowed to run, scream or touch most of the art on display.
Besides, the sound level in the immersive room is quite high, and may frighten the little ones.
