When looking for an all-inclusive hotel in Mauritius with children, Tamassa in Bel Ombre ticks all the boxes. With its magnificent lagoon, excellent kids’ club and three swimming pools, we recount our experience at the end of October 2025 at this 4-star hotel belonging to the Lux group.
First impression: an authentic Mauritian welcome
As soon as we arrive at Tamassa, we are struck by the breathtaking view before us. It’s like a living painting, revealing the vastness of the resort stretching out before our eyes. It’s a classic signature of grand hotels, always making a striking first impression that never fails to impress me: I love it.
The welcome? Typically Mauritian! With smiles on their faces and hands on their hearts, the team offers us fresh juice and refreshing towels to welcome us. Always nice after a long journey.
Great deal for residents: We took advantage of resident rates, which offered excellent value for money, even during the peak French and Réunion school holiday season. For expatriates and Mauritian residents, this is a golden opportunity to stay at these luxury hotels at really attractive prices (unlike standard tourist rates). If you are a resident, I invite you to visit my article dedicated to tips for expats in Mauritius to find out more! Details of rates are provided further down in the article.
The first good point that speaks for itself: the toilets in the reception area are spotless, with even a small stool by the sinks and a changing table. When travelling with children, these details matter a great deal.
A resort that exudes relaxation
The Tamassa is the Lux Group’s entry-level hotel, located in the beautiful south of the island in Bel Ombre. But make no mistake, “entry-level” does not mean low-end, far from it!
As you wander around the hotel, you’ll discover some lovely surprises: an avenue of colourful umbrellas that makes for the perfect photo spot, a life-size board game area with chess, Connect Four, Jenga, skittles, noughts and crosses… Kids love it!
The Tam Tam Club: paradise for little ones (and peace of mind for parents!)
Special mention – and that’s an understatement – for the kids club! The Tam Tam Club is simply brilliant. Colourful, spacious, with attentive staff who won over my children from the very first minute.
What you need to know about the kids club:
- Open from 9am to 10pm (but parents usually pick up their children around 6pm).
- Two tailored programmes: 3-7 years and 8-11 years
- A different programme every day so they never get bored
- Babysitting service available (at an extra cost, remember to book in advance)
- Our children’s favourite activities: treasure hunt, glass-bottom boat, T-shirt or canvas painting (at an extra cost), the bubble bath at the main swimming pool
- The facilities are excellent: a sandpit, a vegetable garden at the entrance, several small tables and chairs adapted to their size. There is even an enclosure with two turtles and a “turtle feeding” activity organised regularly.
The real bonus? The activity leaders are lovely, attentive and really adapt to the children’s wishes. You can even leave them there during lunch. Perfect for enjoying a romantic meal!
For older children, there is also the Studio 17 Club for 12-17 year olds, located right next door. Open from 8am to 11pm.
Santosha Spa: our zen retreat
While the children were having fun at the kids’ club, we took the opportunity to discover Santosha, the Tamassa spa. In a truly zen and beautifully designed space, we tried out the hammam and sauna, which were included in our package. The small heated pool was the perfect extra touch to prolong this moment of absolute relaxation.
Close to the kids’ club, you will also find tennis courts and a gym/weight training area.
All other treatments are subject to a charge and can be booked directly on site.
Spoilt for choice: swimming pools, beach and activities
At Tamassa, the hardest part is deciding where to spend your day! Here’s what’s on offer:
The three large swimming pools
- The main pool: perfect for aquagym classes, slightly cool but very pleasant.
- The two oval pools: located in the middle of the rooms, shallower and preferred by our children.
- Our preference: we were on the right side with the shallowest pool, ideal for toddlers and close to the kids’ club.
The beach and its magnificent lagoon
The Bel Ombre lagoon is simply splendid. Turquoise water, white sand… The perfect Mauritian postcard!
The nautical hut
Kayaking, pedalos, glass-bottom boats… There’s plenty to choose from. We didn’t necessarily take advantage of all these activities, preferring to relax quietly. Our eldest son loved the glass-bottom boat with the kids’ club.
La Playa: the restaurant with its feet in the sand
We tried “La Playa”, the beach restaurant overlooking the lagoon, which specialises in seafood.
Please note:
- No need to book for lunch (reservation required for dinner)
- Smart casual dress code in the evening (gentlemen, please avoid shorts and flip-flops!)
- The setting is magnificent with an almost panoramic view
- Service is a little slower, but you’ll be swept away by the atmosphere
With the all-inclusive package, you can choose almost anything on the menu (except for dishes marked with an asterisk, but that’s really no big deal). I opted for the fish of the day with vegetables: delicious!
The Show: the main restaurant
This is where we had most of our meals. The buffet concept is convenient with children: they take their own plates and bowls and go around the buffet independently if they are tall enough.
Three spaces to choose from:
- Tables by the main pool
- Tables inside the air-conditioned area
- Tables on the patio (our favourites!) near the small pools, very pleasant
High chairs are available, and even though service is provided more in English than in French, there are no communication issues.
On the menu: a wide variety with different themes each evening (Mauritian, international, etc.) and the usual staples: pasta, pizza, rice… There’s something for everyone!
The Burger Truck: our favourite!
One lunchtime, instead of going back to the restaurant, we opted for the burger truck (open only for lunch from 12pm to 3pm).
Honestly? It was brilliant! Not only are the burgers delicious, but it’s also extremely convenient: you can get them to take away in cardboard boxes and go straight back to your sun loungers. Bliss!
The “Scoop” or ice cream stand
After a delicious burger, why not follow it up with some tasty ice cream? Your wish is granted at Scoop, which is right next to Burger Truck.
Our room: functional and comfortable
Let’s be honest: Tamassa is a large hotel. Our room was close to the beach, but it takes about 10 minutes to walk to the main restaurant with young children. That’s the only minor “drawback” we noticed.
What we liked about our room:
- Perfect layout for a family stay
- Bathtub AND shower (handy with children!)
- Mini-bar included in the package (so cool!)
- Adult bathrobes provided, and children’s bathrobes on request (so cute!)
A minor detail about Mauritius: we spotted a few mosquitoes, but hey, it’s Mauritius! Nothing dramatic.
Our practical tips for a successful holiday with children
My special checklist for hotels with children:
Before arrival:
- Make a specific request for a ground floor room with a bath
What to bring :
- 🔦 Torch or head torch for the evening (children love these!)
- 🎨 Some colouring books, activity books and felt-tip pens/coloured pencils for the restaurant
- 🏖️ The classic beach kit: swimsuits, UV T-shirts, hats, sun cream, flip-flops, rubber rings, sunglasses, swimming goggles and a few games (bucket, ball, diving toys)
- 💧 Water bottles
- 📚 Bedtime books
- 🧸 Comfort toys
- 💊 First aid kit: disinfectant, plasters, arnica, paracetamol, cotton wool
- 🛁 Bubble bath for children
Practical information:
- Check-in: from 2 p.m.
- Check-out : 11 a.m.
Good tip: As we didn’t have lunch when we arrived on the first day (arriving around 3pm), we were able to have lunch before leaving on the last day. How cool!
Price
We stayed for three nights at the end of October 2025 on an all-inclusive basis in a superior room.
With resident rates, we benefited from a rate of around MUR 15,000 (approximately €300) per night, whereas as tourists we would have had to pay MUR 22,000 (€420). That’s a difference of 40%.
Of course, rates will vary depending on the season, availability, the number of guests, and the type of room you choose.
How can I benefit from resident rates?
You will need to bring your residence permit or your resident card issued by the EDB.

⚠️ Information for tourists:
Since 1 October 2025, there is now a mandatory tourist tax of €3 per person per night, payable upon check-in at the hotel (applicable only to guests aged 12 and over).
Please note that residents are not affected by this new measure.
Our verdict: is Tamassa worth a visit?
Yes, without hesitation! Tamassa is an excellent choice for a family holiday in Mauritius. The exceptional kids’ club, multiple swimming pools, magnificent lagoon and all-inclusive package make this hotel a sure bet.
Admittedly, it is a large resort (with the distances that this implies), but the atmosphere is warm and the staff are very attentive. We mainly chose to relax by the pool during our stay, and it was exactly what we needed.
Tamassa in summary:
- ✅ Great kids club
- ✅ Three beautiful swimming pools
- ✅ Magnificent lagoon
- ✅ Varied all-inclusive catering
- ✅ Good value for money (especially for residents)
- ✅ Attentive staff
A rejuvenating stay in the south of the island, where young and old alike will find something to enjoy. What more could you ask for? 🌴
